3-D Scanners
3D scanners are one of the most exciting technological advances that have transformed dentistry. The digital scanners use a small camera to capture thousands of tiny images of the teeth. The scanner technology stitches together those images to create a three-dimensional digital model. By digitally scanning a patient’s mouth, traditional dental impressions become a thing of the past, and procedures such as Invisalign, crowns, veneers, and mouthguards become more precise and effective. This process is also much more comfortable for patients, eliminating the need for messy and uncomfortable traditional impressions.
3D scanner software can also be used to simulate treatments and monitor the progression of dental disease over time.
Digital Radiographs
With the use of digital radiographs, exposure to radiation is greatly reduced and the almost instant production of images makes the process much faster than traditional x-rays. Additionally, the ability to enlarge images means a more accurate diagnosis and it is easier for patients to actually visualise what’s going on in their mouth.
Intraoral Diagnostic Cameras
Diagnostic cameras are also an essential tool in digital dentistry. They not only take photos but by using autofluorescence, decay can be detected at its earliest stages, resulting in less invasive treatments.
